    Qualitative operational risk software -development of a software tool for determining the root of operational risk

    This article shows software that allows determining the statistical behavior of qualitative data originating surveys previously transformed with a Likert’s scale to quantitative data. The main intention is offer to users a useful tool to know statistics' characteristics and forecasts of financial risks in a fast and simple way. Additionally,this paper presents the definition of operational risk. On the other hand, the article explains different techniques to do surveys with a Likert’s scale (Avila, 2008) to know expert’s opinion with the transformation of qualitative data to quantitative data. In addition, this paper will show how is very easy to distinguish an expert’s opinion related to risk, but when users have a lot of surveys and matrices is very difficult to obtain results because is necessary to compare common data. On the other hand, statistical value representative must be extracted from common data to get weight of each risk. In the end, this article exposes the development of “Qualitative Operational Risk Software” or QORS by its acronym, which has been designed to determine the root of risks in organizations and its value at operational risk OpVaR (Jorion, 2008; Chernobai et al, 2008) when input data comes from expert’s opinion and their associated matrices

    Este proyecto trata sobre mi paso, experiencias y aprendizajes realizados en el Máster Universitario en Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanzas de Idiomas, Artísticas y Deportivas, dejando patente la adquisición de las competencias básicas para ejercer como docente. El Trabajo Fin de Máster está conformado por una introducción donde se plantea un recorrido por la legislación en materia educativa hasta el momento presente, desarrollando de una manera especial el marco legislativo en el que nos movemos actualmente, un marco teórico sobre las teorías educativas de mayor calado, el conjunto de experiencias en el centro y un mirada hacia los retos a los cuales debemos enfrentarnos. Un segundo bloque en el cual hablo sobre las actividades de mayor relevancia en el Máster y gracias a las cuales he adquirido las competencias necesarias, dejando patente esta adquisición a través de un análisis crítico de éstas y describiendo la metodología utilizada y adquirida en la diferentes asignaturas. Para finalizar expongo las conclusiones sobre lo que me ha aportado el Máster, herramientas, capacidades y competencias, el estado de la educación y mis ideas sobre el futuro de la docencia y los conocimientos que debo trabajar para incorporarme a la profesión

    Monitoring changes in the volatile profile of ecuadorian cocoa during different steps in traditional on-farm processing

    The present work was conducted to evaluate the volatile profile of Ecuadorian Forastero, CCN-51, ETT103 and LR14 cocoa beans during traditional fermentation in laurel wood boxes followed by a sun-drying process. Fifty-six volatiles were identified with HS-SPME-GC-MS. Aldehydes, alcohols and ketones were the compounds that mainly characterized the fresh cocoa. The main compounds formed during the anaerobic fermentation step were esters and acids, while in the aerobic fermentation step, an increase in ester-, aldehyde- and acid-type compounds was observed. Finally, after the drying step, a notable increase in the acid (i.e., acetic acid) content was the predominant trend. According to the genotypes, ETT103 presented high contents of terpenes, alcohols, aldehydes and ketones and low contents of unfavorable acid compounds. The CCN-51 and LR14 (Trinitarian) varieties stood out for their highest amounts in acids (i.e., acetic acid) at the end of primary processing. Finally, the Forastero cocoa beans were highlighted for their low acid and high trimethylpyrazine contents. According to the chemometric and Venn diagram analyses, ETT-103 was an interestingly high-aromatic-quality variety for cocoa gourmet preparations.     Leishmania infantum (JPCM5) transcriptome, gene models and resources for an active curation of gene annotations

    Leishmania infantum is one of the causative agents of visceral leishmaniases, the most severe form of leishmaniasis. An improved assembly for the L. infantum genome was published five years ago, yet delineation of its transcriptome remained to be accomplished. In this work, the transcriptome annotation was attained by a combination of both short and long RNA-seq reads. The good agreement between the results derived from both methodologies confirmed that transcript assembly based on Illumina RNA-seq and further delimitation according to the positions of spliced leader (SAS) and poly-A (PAS) addition sites is an adequate strategy to annotate the transcriptomes of Leishmania, a procedure previously used for transcriptome annotation in other Leishmania species and related trypanosomatids. These analyses also confirmed that the Leishmania transcripts boundaries are relatively slippery, showing extensive heterogeneity at the 5′- and 3′-ends. However, the use of RNA-seq reads derived from the PacBio technology (referred to as Iso-Seq) allowed the authors to uncover some complex transcription patterns occurring at particular loci that would be unnoticed by the use of short RNA-seq reads alone. Thus, Iso-Seq analysis provided evidence that transcript processing at particular loci would be more dynamic than expected. Another noticeable finding was the observation of a case of allelic heterozygosity based on the existence of chimeric Iso-Seq reads that might be generated by an event of intrachromosomal recombination. In addition, we are providing the L. infantum gene models, including both UTRs and CDS regions, that would be helpful for undertaking whole-genome expression studies.     A Probabilistic Algorithm for Predictive Control With Full-Complexity Models in Non-Residential Buildings

    Despite the increasing capabilities of information technologies for data acquisition and processing, building energy management systems still require manual configuration and supervision to achieve optimal performance. Model predictive control (MPC) aims to leverage equipment control-particularly heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)-by using a model of the building to capture its dynamic characteristics and to predict its response to alternative control scenarios. Usually, MPC approaches are based on simplified linear models, which support faster computation but also present some limitations regarding interpretability, solution diversification, and longer-term optimization. In this paper, we propose a novel MPC algorithm that uses a full-complexity grey-box simulation model to optimize HVAC operation in non-residential buildings. Our system generates hundreds of candidate operation plans, typically for the next day, and evaluates them in terms of consumption and comfort by means of a parallel simulator configured according to the expected building conditions (weather and occupancy).     Shannon entropy as a reliable score to diagnose human fibroelastic degenerative mitral chords: a micro-ct ex-vivo study

    This paper is aimed at identifying by means of micro-CT the microstructural differences between normal and degenerative mitral marginal chordae tendineae. The control group is composed of 21 normal chords excised from 14 normal mitral valves from heart transplant recipients. The experimental group comprises 22 degenerative fibroelastic chords obtained at surgery from 11 pathological valves after mitral repair or replacement. In the control group the superficial endothelial cells and spongiosa layer remained intact, covering the wavy core collagen. In contrast, in the experimental group the collagen fibers were arranged as straightened thick bundles in a parallel configuration. 100 cross-sections were examined by micro-CT from each chord. Each image was randomized through the K-means machine learning algorithm and then, the global and local Shannon entropies were obtained. The optimum number of clusters, K, was estimated to maximize the differences between normal and degenerative chords in global and local Shannon entropy; the p-value after a nested ANOVA test was chosen as the parameter to be minimized. Optimum results were obtained with global Shannon entropy and 2≤K≤7, providing p < 0.01; for K=3, p = 2.86⋅10-³.     Effects of different heating treatments on the antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds of ecuadorian red dacca banana

    The banana is a tropical fruit characterized by its composition of healthy and nutritional compounds. This fruit is part of traditional Ecuadorian gastronomy, being consumed in a wide variety of ways. In this context, unripe Red Dacca banana samples and those submitted to different traditional Ecuadorian heating treatments (boiling, roasting, and baking) were evaluated to profile their phenolic content by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) and the antioxidant activity by ORAC, ABTS, and DPPH assays. A total of sixty-eight phenolic compounds were identified or tentatively identified in raw banana and treated samples, highlighting the content in flavonoids (flavan-3-ols with 88.33% and flavonols with 3.24%) followed by the hydroxybenzoic acid family (5.44%) in raw banana samples. The total phenolic compound content significantly decreased for all the elaborations evaluated, specifically from 442.12 mg/100 g DW in fresh bananas to 338.60 mg/100 g DW in boiled (23.41%), 243.63 mg/100 g DW in roasted (44.90%), and 109.85 mg/100 g DW in baked samples (75.15%). Flavan-3-ols and flavonols were the phenolic groups most affected by the heating treatments, while flavanones and hydroxybenzoic acids showed higher stability against the heating treatments, especially the boiled and roasted samples. In general, the decrease in phenolic compounds corresponded with a decline in antioxidant activity, evaluated by different methods, especially in baked samples. The results obtained from PCA studies confirmed that the impact of heating on the composition of some phenolic compounds was different depending on the technique used. In general, the heating processes applied to the banana samples induced phytochemical modifications.
